The Bony King of Nowhere

Earlier this year, he released ‘Everybody Knows’, the seventh studio album by The Bony King of Nowhere. Bram Vanparys, what is his actual birth name, treated us to three songs from his most recent record during his Heaven Session in the Muziekgieterij studio. The man from Ghent is not into grand arrangements or a lot of bombast. He prefers to serve us personal, thoughtful songs, without much fuss or embellishment.

On ‘Everybody Knows’, it is not the guitar that defines the sound this time around, but rather keys that prevail. According to Vanparys himself, this is for a fairly simple reason, he tells Ludo Diels (Heaven Magazine) after the session: “I bought a piano.”

In creating the album, Vanparys mainly wanted to impose restrictions on himself, in this case the limitation of an instrument he has not yet fully mastered: ‘Because when everything is possible, it can be very paralysing.’’
