Katy Kirby
Jaar: 2024
Katy Kirby appeared on the Muziekgieterij Stage in a cloud of unconcern. Her music is upbeat and sometimes dreamy. And sometimes a touch wistful. In “Fences,” her third song of the set, there is even room for unadulterated hatred. “This song is for some I hate so much,” she says before launching into the song.
The singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee played herself into the spotlight with the EP ‘Juniper’ (2018). Her latest album, ‘Blue Raspberry,’ was released in early 2024. She played quite a few songs from that record during her Heaven Session at BKS 2024.
The session was followed by a pleasant chat with Ludo Diels (Heaven). They talked about the “thorny vines” on the BKS grounds and other flora. Also discussed were hate, love, the benefits of weed, Texas and the New York music scene. And is the title of her first album – “Cool Dry Place” – now a metaphor?
