As Hurricane Alicia made landfall in Houston, Texas in late August 1983, David Ramirez was born in that same city. We are now forty years on and the Texan has six albums to his credit. Ramirez is not a man of frivolities: his Americana is as ominous as the weather on the day of his birth. That melancholy also filled the Muziekgieterij studio in Maastricht in early September. There, just before his performance at Bruis, Ramirez played three songs with his band. Afterwards, he spoke with Heaven editor Ludo Diels about his fortieth birthday, Austin Texas, crime novels and other important matters.
