The lights are pointed at you, your parents are in the hall, and the drummer taps out. You take off, and the pop tune you composed blows out of the Muziekgieterij speakers. Ten weeks ago, you never touched an instrument – and now you’re a rock star.

Pop music is for everyone, and anyone can make pop music. With this in mind, Muziekgieterij offers a programme for groups 7 and 8 of primary schools. Here, all children, regardless of their experience, get the chance to play in a pop band and write music. The pupils are challenged to write and learn to play their own pop song(s) in ten weeks. In this process, they are guided by qualified and experienced coaches. The schools conclude the project with a pop concert for family and friends in Muziekgieterij.

We also do tailor-made work with secondary schools, whether for rehearsal rooms, workshop days or tape recordings. Meanwhile, Muziekgieterij has gone to 35 primary schools in Maastricht and the surrounding area with this project and we have worked with 11 secondary schools in the region.
