For musicians looking to grow by getting active with music. Within the muziekgieterij Academy, you can join programs and workshops where you play together, write songs, and gain performance experience.

Are you between 15 and 19 years old and do you dream of making music your career? Then our Pop/Rock Preparatory Course (VoPoRo) might be just for you. This music preparatory course has been specially developed for young musicians who want to grow and prepare for an audition for a professional music program.

During the course, you will have 33 lessons of 2 hours each. Our experienced coaches will guide you step by step, helping you further develop your musical skills, stage experience, and knowledge. This way, you’ll be well-prepared for your audition at a music academy.

What will you learn during the music preparatory course?

In the VoPoRo course, your development as a musician is central. You won’t just learn to make better music; you’ll also discover everything involved in being professionally active in the music industry.

During the lessons, you will work on things like:

• playing in a band;
• playing together and performing;
• training your musical ear;
• presenting yourself as a musician or act;
• promoting yourself and gaining visibility;
• organizing and arranging gigs;
• preparing for your audition for a music program.

The Pop/Rock Preparatory Course provides you with a broad foundation for the next step in your musical development.

Audition video for admission

To be admitted to the VoPoRo course, send us an audition video of up to 10 minutes. In this video, show us what you can already do musically. You don’t need to be a professional musician yet: we are mainly interested in your talent, motivation, and musical development.

Along with your audition video, please send a cover email briefly telling us about your musical background and ambitions. This helps our coaches get a good sense of you as a musician and what you want to achieve during the course.

Who is the Pop/Rock Preparatory Course for?

VoPoRo is intended for young people aged 14 to 19 who want to get serious about music. Maybe you’re already in a band, writing your own songs, or you’re just passionate about music and want to see how far you can go.

Rockstar for a Day is the perfect active teambuilding experience for companies and organisations, suitable for groups of 10 to 60 people. In just one day, you and your colleagues will form a band and work together towards a performance on a real stage. It’s all about collaboration, courage, and having fun. No musical experience is required.

The entire activity takes place at muziekgieterij. You will work in our rehearsal rooms and finish on the Playground stage. Instruments and equipment are all set up, so everyone can join in. Under the guidance of professional band coaches, you’ll discover what it’s like to make music together and perform for an audience.

What to expect?

You will work in small groups with a dedicated coach on a short set. Everyone participates, even if you’ve never held an instrument before. At the end of the session, each group gives a short presentation on stage. We provide the coaching, instruments, and technical support.

Duration: 3 hours, followed by a short concert

Includes: use of rehearsal rooms, stage, instruments, and equipment
Cost: €85 per participant (excl. VAT)

The bar is open during the programme and the final performance. The activity can be expanded with options such as a guided tour, drinks and snacks, coffee and vlaai, or dinner.

Band Coaching is a course where you work on your music as a band together with others. Under the guidance of a regular coach, you practice weekly in the rehearsal rooms of muziekgieterij. You choose and practice songs, learn to play better together, and perform as a group.

How does it work?

Band Coaching is offered in 6 or 16-week courses, with a weekly rehearsal supervised by the same coach.

Performing is a key part of Band Coaching. Participants in the 16-week course, or two consecutive 6-week courses, can perform during showcases in our venue. We also encourage you to take part in Band Nights and find your own gigs to gain as much stage experience as possible.

Who is it for?

You can sign up as a complete band, but also as an individual. If you register alone, we’ll see if we can match you with other musicians who suit you.
Would your child like to join our club, but there isn’t enough money (at the moment) to pay the fees? This is possible through the Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur. The Jeugdfonds pays the club if you don’t have enough funds. They also help if equipment is needed, such as clothing or shoes.

Together with schools in Maastricht and the surrounding area, we introduce children and young people to making music together, creating, and performing. Thanks to the support of the Elisabeth Strouven Fund, we can offer these educational programmes widely throughout the region.

For primary schools, we offer Muziekgieterij School: a project for groups 7 and 8, consisting of five lessons. Under the guidance of our coaches, children discover different instruments, practice their favourite songs, and learn to play together in a band. The process concludes with a performance at Muziekgieterij, where the class plays a real pop concert.

For secondary schools, there is Muziekgieterij Young. In five lessons, students work together towards their own concert. They don’t just stand on stage themselves, but also take care of the lighting and sound engineering, promotion, and production of the performance. This way, they get to know all the components of a professional live show.

In addition to these fixed programmes, tailor-made work is also possible. Think, for example, of workshop days, project weeks, band recordings, or the use of rehearsal rooms. We are happy to help think of a suitable programme for your school.

The Playground is an open space for musicians at muziekgieterij. You can rent rehearsal rooms there, and there are plenty of activities where you can play, practice, and experiment. It is also a meeting place for creators and musicians to get creative together. Check out the program schedule for all upcoming events and feel welcome at muziekgieterij.

During the Demo Club, we create a space to get to know yourself better as a creator, break through blocks, and finally finish those tracks you’ve been carrying around for too long.

Together with other musicians, you’ll discuss your demo: honestly, openly, and without judgment. A professional coach facilitates the conversation, providing real feedback and hopefully new insights.

Lines for Lunch is a monthly lunch concert series held in the Playground. Students from Conservatorium Maastricht showcase their music during a small live concert.

Discoveries during your lunch break

During Lines for Lunch, young musicians perform their own songs in a relaxed afternoon setting. It is a wonderful change of pace during your lunch break and a chance to discover new music. The music ranges from jazz to innovative and original compositions.

Everyone who loves live music is welcome. Whether you are a musician, student, music lover, or just curious: Lines for Lunch is low-key and accessible.

When?

Lines for Lunch takes place every month in the Playground at muziekgieterij, on Thursdays at 1:00 PM. Check the agenda to claim your free ticket for the next edition.

Pop Talk is a monthly evening where we listen to music together and talk about it. Each edition focuses on one central theme, such as an artist, album, musical movement, or musical idea.

How does a Pop Talk evening work?

During Pop Talk, we listen to various musical examples that fit the chosen theme. We discuss what we hear, why it sounds that way, and what makes it special.

You can actively participate by:

• asking questions
• sharing what you notice
• responding to others

Sometimes we provide extra clarification with short live examples or simple exercises.

Who is Pop Talk for?

Pop Talk is for everyone who is curious about music. Whether you:

• make music yourself
• are a songwriter or producer
• or simply want to better understand what you hear

you are more than welcome. No prior knowledge is required – interest is enough.

Atmosphere and setup

The atmosphere during Pop Talk is relaxed and informal. You are free to listen, join the conversation, and suggest ideas for future themes.

For musicians with ambition and their own direction. Through selection, muziekgieterij Talent Support offers intensive trajectories in which you work on creative growth and professional development.

The scene is alive! The hip-hop scene in Limburg is buzzing, and every now and then, a name breaks through. Think of Mesy, or more recently, Illie. And the rest? They build a following, play the occasional small show that reaches few people, but mostly stay under the radar until the next one goes viral.

De Kom Op wants to change that. Not by moving the scene, but by building a bridge. A professional stage, an industry jury, and feedback that actually helps you move forward. No vague compliments, but substantive feedback on your lyrics, delivery, stage presence, and performance. You’ll also meet peers who, just like you, are looking for like-minded people or new collaborations.

How does it work?

You sign up with your own work. Each edition, we select 8 acts to perform for an audience and a jury. The winner gets something that really matters: even more performance slots at venues and festivals in the region, plus coaching beforehand to make the most of that opportunity.

AIR is the most intensive programme within muziekgieterij’s Production House. It is intended for musicians who want to get serious about their own project and are looking for time, space and the right people to support them.

We determine what that trajectory looks like together. For some, it is a year in which you work step-by-step towards an EP, album, live show or something completely different. For others, a short, defined period works better. For example, being here every day for two weeks to write new work in a bubble, spending a few weeks tinkering with your live show, or exploring a specific question you are facing together.

You set the course, we take care of the rest: rehearsal spaces, studio time, stage opportunities and a network of people who know the industry. AIR is not a fixed program. It moves with where you are and what you need, so that you can continue to build independently later on.

We scout artists ourselves, but you can also apply throughout the year. All genres are welcome, as long as they are idiosyncratic, curious and driven. The trajectory preferably concludes with a public presentation, or another form that suits your plan. If you come out stronger as a musician, it has been a success.
