zZz and Stuurbaard Bakkebaard don’t fit neatly into a single genre. You’ll hear that on January 23 in a double bill full of abrasive fuzz, Philicorda organ, and angular rhythms.
zZz broke through in the early 2000s with ‘Ecstacy’ and ‘Grip’, building an international cult status with just keys, vocals, and drums. After ten years of radio silence, the Amsterdam duo returned with Konnichiwa – Guten Tag – Money Money. New wave, kraut, punk, stoner, and indie blend effortlessly on the album, without zZz losing their frantic live sound.
Stuurbaard Bakkebaard has been making music that is even harder to categorize since 1996. After five albums and hundreds of shows across the Netherlands, Europe, and South Africa, the trio remained active behind the scenes creating music for film and television. On their sixth album, Feeding the Rats, the band sounds more angular than before: fuzz and drums collide with their signature distorted vocals. Together, they form a double bill that ignores boxes and remains surprisingly danceable.
